The use of the word "distressed" conveys a sarcastic tone, which suggests that the persona is toying with the idea that women are more empathic and emotional, or are certainly expected to be. The use of these words together conveys that the writer believes that society considers them synonymous, which further implies that the persona feels trapped by these societal expectations of women. Additionally,Millay also uses the word "possessed", which implies that women are possessed by societal expectations. Furthermore, Millay presents the view that the persona believes that women are isolated. The use of the word "my kind" suggests the abnormality of women and their detachment from society, as the historical setting of women post WW1 in the 1920s, women were not involved dir ectly in conflict, but forced to stay at home without male sexual partners to satisfy them. The use of the word "propinquity" juxtaposes the reality that men were absent for long periods of time during the war, but now men are returned and in close proximity, the persona and women can't help but desire sex, after years of abstinence, or at least that was what was perpetuated by society. Millay also presents the idea that women are actually superior to men in a relationship. By formatting the poem as a sonnet, Millay further juxtaposes societal norms of women and men, as sonnets were traditionally written by men to women. By reverting this, Millay depicts female dominance and an equal capability to do men's work'. Millay divides the sonnet into an octave (8 lines) and a sestet. The first part encompasses the lack of control the persona has over her actions, through the use of language such as "undone" and "possessed", whereas the latter part established dominance and control over the lover and a woman's sexuality, "let me make it plain", which further depicts a woman's established superiority to men, particularly in sex, where a woman is expected to be subservient and virginal, particularly within the 1920s, as although women behagn experiencing greater sxual liberation, traiditonl patriarchali ideology was still prevalent within society. Thus, edna st. vicent millay , further explores the notion of views of female sexuality, as also eluded to in a few figs from thistles. Moreover, Millay uses lexical polysemy to describe her mind as "staggering", which could depict her feminine indecision, or reference her superior intellect over the male. Also the fact that she was born a "woman" connotes the maturity women encompass. Millay presents the persona as viewing love as a social construction that she does not conform to. The poem is a sonnet about sex with a partner, who the persona does not wish to pursue after the casual encounter. Although the poem is about sex, contrary to typical romantic poems, there is little or no imagery throughout. Instead, there is direct, masculine dialect, such as "let me make it plain", I find this...insufficient reason". This suggests that Millay is defying the romantic societal expectation of women to be engulfed in love and romance before sex, and be subservient to their husbands, and instead addressing the reality that love is not always necessary for sex. While all of these 2018 ACT score percentiles and averages are helpful to know, they don’t tell you what a good ACT score for you is in particular. Look for the highest 75th percentile score in your chart. In our example, the highest score is 34 (for Northeastern). This score will be your goal score, as it’s the one most likely to get you accepted to all of the schools in your chart. Since your composite ACT score is the average of your four section scores, you can use your goal score to estimate what score to aim for on each section.For example, if your goal score is 28, you'll know to roughly aim for 28 on the four sections, too (so that the average of them, or your composite score, comes out to 28). That being said, if you're stronger at certain sections or topics, you might want to aim for higher scores on those sections and lower scores on the others. For instance, if your goal score is 30 and you're really good at math but not so great at reading, you could aim forsomething like 32 on Math and 28 on Reading (instead of 30 on both sections). In this case, you'll still be able to hit your goal score- you're just using a different combination of section scores to get there. How Have Good ACT Scores Changed Over Time? What about percentiles, though? Above, we used percentiles to show what good, OK, and poor ACT scores look like. But have the scores associated with these percentiles changed over time? The fact that ACT scores and their percentiles don't change much is helpful to know if you want to compare a more recent ACT score with an older one. For example, if you wanted to compare your 2017 ACT score with your older sister’s 2012 ACT score, you can easily do this using percentiles- without having to takeinto account test years or dates. Prevent Infection in Hospitalized Neutropenic patients with Cancer - Speech or Presentation Example The most common source of infection in hospitalized cancer patients is the central venous catheter, or CVC. Nurses must be meticulous in their hygiene when administering a CVC, starting with hand-washing and clean or sterile gloves, and also ensure that the insertion site is sterilized. However, topical antibiotic creams should not be used, as they tend to encourage fungal infection. Dressing should be changed regularly, as well as whenever they become visibly dirty (Zitella, 2010). As always, the nursing staff must ensure that all medical devices intended for internal use are sterile, especially catheters (Hachem et al., 2009). The most important thing a nurse, or for that matter, anyone, can do to prevent patient infection is hand hygiene (Friese, 2007). Tooth and mouth care helps stop colonization of the soft palate and gums with Streptococcal bacteria. Patients should brush their teeth at least three times daily using toothpaste and an extra soft toothbrush to prevent scratches on the gums and tongue. Additionally, some benefit may be gained from the use of a clorhexidine mouth rinse at each tooth brushing session, though studies suggest that this step is not always required (Antunes et al., 2010). Patients have historically been prescribed a low-microbial diet to avoid infection from fresh fruits and vegetables. However, if general food safety practices are followed, avoiding fresh produce does not seem to confer any major health benefit to oncology patients. Such neutr openic patients should not eat uncooked fish as in the form of sushi, raw or undercooked eggs, or any unwashed produce (Zitella, 2010). For nearly every neutropenic patient, however, there will come a time when preventative measures fail and infection with fever becomes present. When this occurs, it is vital that the patient's nursing staff is aware of the severity of this issue. The patient must be treated immediately with broad, global antibiotics to combat the infection. For these patients, infection with gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria can be equally as harmful, and so any neutrophenic patient presenting with a fever should be treated the same way (Freifeld et al., 2011). Neutrophenic immune-compromised patients should also receive an influenza vaccine, as the risk of death or serious illness from influenza outweighs the possibility of risk from the vaccine itself. For these patients, an inactivated vaccine is safest. The administration of the vaccine should be timed ca refully between rounds of chemotherapy treatments, as the reduced immune system of the patients can lead to a reduced reaction to the vaccine. In an attempt to cope, parents will use trail and error, bribery, threats, reasoning and anything they hope will work. For some children, school can be a stressful place. After spending most of the day in school, children are typically given additional work to be completed at home. Here is the question what is the purpose of homework? All people can agree it is used to reinforce on what the children learned during school. But is it really helpful for kids to spend time to do homework instead of doing what they should really do? Such as playing outside or learn to help doing chores? Thats look at the merits and demerits of doing homework. Merits: Homework obviously helps kids study on what they learned during school. It can also help some kids to research and obtain some useful information which they might not know or miss in class. Homework can also give kids a sense of responsibility; this is a very important thing that can affect kids growth during life. Believe it or not, doing homework can actually be a way of exercising! I have come home after spend 6 hours at school and take more 2-3 hours homework. I am worn out. Sick and tired on this kind of routine. Haniya (10th class)- Homework is good. If you dont do your homework now, you must feel regret in future and end up having the worst job in the world. They spend at least 5 hours in school. When they are at home, they want to play. They want to spend time with us. They want to explore the outdoors. They want to have adventure but they have no time for such type of activities because burden of homework. In my opinion homework is necessary for students because homework provide then a chance to revise what they learn in school and this is good for their batter result. If students miss something in school during homework their parents can help them. As you can see, homework has more negative effects than positive on the children today. I absolutely agree that too mush homework can have a negative impact on children. After a 5-6 hour day in school, homework should take another 3-4 hours. Think of how you would feel if, after a long hard day at work, you had to bring home 4 more hours of work each and every day. When would you have time to talk to your family? What emotional state would you find yourself in after spending ten hours of each week day working? Too much homework can rob children time to play, relax, interact with others, and participate in other events such as sports or the arts. Too much homework may lead to negative feelings about school and education. The sad fact in todays school system is that a teacher often does not have enough individual time to spend with each student. And some students can be left behind if they do not understand the previous concept before moving on to the next. This is one reason I find about the homework importance. It lets you see how your children are doing in different areas. If student did not understand what teacher was saying, parents can help them. I come at this point homework can be detrimental. Children in class 2 have less than 20 minutes of homework per day. 3rd to 6th grade students should have less than 60 minutes per day. Homework for older students will very by grade level, school curriculum, and subject area. So there has to be a balancing point between too much and too little homework.

That's the feeling I get reading from the Chahar Maqala, tales from a time when doctors diagnosed lovesick princes from a urine sample, a pulse, and a review of local geography. American medicine in the late 20th century seems considerably less romantic. Protocols and seven-minute patient visits are supposed to leave physicians tracking blood pressure readings and calibrating Prozac prescriptions. There's no time for wisdom in an HMO, or so the wiser and more ancient of current physicians lament. So it was with certain trepidation that I spent a day last December in an internist's office. The morning started slowly, with a 63 year old woman with a history of hypertension, back in the office four months after her pills ran out. Her blood pressure, not surprisingly, was high. The doctor reminded her, wearily, to call the office for refills. She nodded. "Compliance," he told me, as we left the exam room, "is our biggest problem." As the day wore on, a steady procession of patients made their way into exam rooms, worried about menopause, stuffy sinuses, colds caught from grandchildren, and all that ails retirees in late December. Just before lunch, an 86-year-old man edged his way into an exam room, dividing his weight between his cane and his wife. "Yesterday, I felt like I couldn't breath," he said. International Business Ethics Essay

A business colleague once recalled a situation in which a former employer had to decide whether gift-giving or bribery was ethically acceptable. In an international business situation, bribery is often a way of cutting through bureaucratic red tape and expediting deals. American companies consider bribery unethical because the American way considers bribery an unfair advantage and does not condone the practice. On an international level, bribery is often an accepted part of local culture and not seen as unethical, but as a way to achieve a quick win-win deal for all parties involved. American business has long been accused of cultural imperialism, the practice of promoting the culture of one nation into another nation by force (wikipedia, 2007). American businesses feel that the American way of doing business is the only way all international businesses should operate, regardless of a locally accepted practices or culture. American companies that are not willing to accept that bribery is an ethical and integral part of performing business on international soil are severely short selling business opportunities. While bribery has resulted in unethical practices on American soil, the same is not true in many international settings. Extra payment for services is seen as good business and often the only way to get any business completed in a timely fashion. While some companies may use bribery on international soil to a disadvantage, most local business cultures simply will not do business without the bribery payments. Globalization has increased the pressure on international business members to regulate many business practices such as bribery. American businesses need to be cognizant of international cultures and take into consideration that accepted practices in a global setting may not be the same as on American soil. The Redstockings Womens Liberation Group

The Redstockings Women's Liberation Group The radical feminist group Redstockings was founded in New York in 1969. The name Redstockings was a play on the word bluestocking, adapted to include red, a color long associated with revolution and uprising. Bluestocking was an old term for a woman who had intellectual or literary interests, instead of the supposedly acceptable feminine interests. The word bluestocking had been applied with a negative connotation to 18th and 19th-century feminist women. Who Were the Redstockings? Redstockings formed when the 1960s group New York Radical Women (NYRW) dissolved. NYRW split up after disagreements about political action, feminist theory, and leadership structure. NYRW members began meeting in separate smaller groups, with some women choosing to follow the leader whose philosophy matched theirs. Redstockings was started by Shulamith Firestone and Ellen Willis. Other members included prominent feminist thinkers Corrine Grad Coleman, Carol Hanisch, and Kathie (Amatniek) Sarachild. Redstockings Manifesto and Beliefs The members of Redstockings firmly believed that women were oppressed as a class. They also asserted that the existing male-dominated society was inherently flawed, destructive, and oppressive. Redstockings wanted the feminist movement to reject the flaws in liberal activism and protest movements. Members said that the existing left perpetuated a society with men in positions power and women stuck in support positions or making coffee. The Redstockings Manifesto called for women to unite to achieve liberation from men as the agents of oppression. The Manifesto also insisted that women not be blamed for their own oppression. Redstockings rejected economic, racial, and class privileges and demanded an end to the exploitative structure of male-dominated society. The Work of Redstockings Redstockings members spread feminist ideas such as consciousness-raising and the slogan sisterhood is powerful. Early group protests included a 1969 abortion speak-out in New York. Redstockings members were appalled by a legislative hearing on abortion at which there were at least a dozen male speakers, and the only woman who spoke was a nun. To protest, they held their own hearing, where women testified about personal experiences with abortion. Redstockings Published a book called Feminist Revolution in 1975. It contained history and analysis of the feminist movement, with writings about what had been achieved and what the next steps would be. Redstockings now exists as a grassroots think tank working on Womens Liberation issues. Veteran members of Redstockings established an archive project in 1989 to collect and make available texts and other materials from the Womens Liberation movement.
